As a professional fishing guide, providing an enjoyable experience has always been my top priority—but just as important is keeping my clients safe on the water. That’s why I recently completed the U.S. Coast Guard’s captain’s class. It wasn’t just about earning a credential—it was about sharpening my skills, understanding maritime safety inside and out, and becoming a better captain for the people who trust me with their time and their lives.

The course dives deep into navigation, weather patterns, emergency procedures, and the rules of the road out on the water. I spent hours learning how to handle real-life situations—from avoiding collisions to managing emergencies calmly and effectively. We trained on reading nautical charts, using GPS systems, and planning safe routes based on tides and conditions.

For my customers, that means peace of mind. Whether we’re fishing close to shore or heading a little farther out, you can feel confident knowing you’ve got a captain at the helm who’s prepared for anything. I took this step because I believe a great fishing trip starts with trust— and trust, experience and saftey.

Not every fishing guide takes the time to go through this level of training—but for me, it was a no-brainer. It’s one more way I can set myself apart and show that I’m serious about what I do. Whether you're an experienced angler or bringing your kids out for their first time on the water, you deserve a trip that’s not only fun but also safe from start to finish.

When you book with me, you’re not just getting someone who knows where the fish are—you’re getting a certified captain who’s prepared, professional, and committed to giving you the best possible experience out there.

If you're ready to hit the water with a guide who puts your experience and safety first, let's plan your next fishing adventure. Reach out today to book a trip or ask any questions—I'm here to help you make the most of your time on the water.

Lake Superior Captain’s Academy has openings for the May 3rd class. I highly recommend attending the class!
