Otter Tail Area Fishing Report – Late August / Early September

If you're chasing walleyes right now, look deep... and if you don't see them, look even deeper! Most fish are holding on deep structure, offshore humps, basin edges, and deep weedline transitions as they continue their late-summer pattern. Electronics are your best friend this time of year.

The good news? The fall transition is beginning, and it's time to start bringing those jigs and minnows back onto the water. Walleyes are starting to key in on baitfish, and a jig tipped with a minnow can be deadly on deep breaks, rock piles, and points.

• Target deep humps and basin edges

• Watch your electronics for bait and fish pods

• Keep jigs and minnows handy

• Fish low-light periods around sunrise and sunset

The next few weeks can produce some of the best walleye fishing of the season as fish begin feeding up for fall.
